Wiskota Events
Image result for drunk bicyclists

The 2020 season is upon us.  I finally bought a new bike, my kids are getting a little bit older and my wife owes me all kinds of free time.  And thus, I am proposing several new Team Wiskota events for this season.  Of course nothing can be set in stone, but I am putting them on the calendar and hoping for the best.  In addition, if you have an event idea or are willing to host something let me know and we can put it on the schedule.

Current Wiskota Event Schedule:

4/26: Liege-Bastogne-Liege Brunch at the Schmidt Haus.  Paris-Roubaix is on Easter Sunday this year and I will be gone.  So bumped the brunch back a few weeks for La Doyene.

5/29: Giro Festa al Fresco at Piazza San Schmidt.  An Italian feast the night before the final decisive Giro stage.  Perhaps a short ride after work and then a relaxing evening in my yard.  Weather dependent, alternative the Bloomington Olive Garden.

6/27: Le Tour Grand Depart Riviera Ride.  As the Tour begins on the french riviera we will take a leisurely cruise around the scenic South Minneapolis Riviera including the river road, Chain of Lakes, Minnehaha Creek and Falls as well as stops at Bread and Pickle, Sandcastle, my yard, and Sea Salt.

7/14: Le Tour Viewing @Birchwood Cafe.  An oldy but a goody.  This stage on a Tuesday may not be accessible to all but it shouldnt be as busy and its a good stage.

Spring Break 2022: Wiskota Holy Week Euro Trip.  Start saving now cause we going to Belgium for Flanders and Roubaix.  Let's do this!

2019 Wiskota Draft

Image result for draft day
What would Costner do?

We finally got it on the calendar, the 2019 Wiskota draft will be held on Feb. 22nd at 7pm location TBD.  If you want to study up here's a link to last year's points results.  Also, because of our late draft this year some riders have already accrued points, if you choose to draft some one who has already scored points you will be awarded those points.  So, yeah, this might be the year Daryl Impy get's drafted pretty high.  See you next Friday, Wiskota!

Pipped at the line?

The unofficial final standings are up, but the closeness of the results has triggered our mandatory recount.  With the winner to be decided by countback.  The official final standings will be posted as soon as an independent count has been completed by the law firm of Jilbare, Gilbert and Jill Bear as to be confirmed by the Italian firm of Nibally and Neebulee.

Breath deep, the gathering gloom
Highlights fade, except for Froome

I know, I'm breaking my own rule: no doping talk.  Here at the Wiskota blog we have always said, "the only thing more boring than tech talk is doping talk".  So, I'll just leave it at that picture and my Moody Blues homage,  and we'll stick to the results.
Despite how you feel about the results that was a very entertaining Giro.  The third week saw the GC upended as this had to be the bonkiest race in recent memory.  Chaves, Yates and Pinot all succumbed to the phantom menace that is the bonk and dropped from the standings like a stone.  Froome's 80K attack has to be the highlight of the race but there were several others.  Let me know what your favorite highlight was and check back for a few of mine.  Also, points have been updated to reflect the Giro results so check it out.

Transfer Meeting #1
Related image
Wheelin' and a Dealin'

The first ever Wiskota transfer event has been scheduled for Wednesday May 2nd at 7:30.  We'll look to arouse our Giro d'Italia enthusiasm with some pizza at Carbone's on Cedar with a possible Negroni or two before/after at Italian Eatery across the piazza.  Bellisima.

So, how does this work.  Well, short answer: not totally sure.  Long answer: like a waiver wire free agent situation.  Basically if you want to add someone you need to wait your turn on waivers.  That order is determined by your league standings (which I will update tomorrow).  The person in last place has first crack at picking up one (1) free agent. After that person picks or declines to participate we move to the next person up on the standings.  We repeat until nobody wants to make any more moves.  If you pick up somebody obviously you have to drop somebody.  Trades can be made at any time during the meeting.  Remember you only get the points that rider earns while you have them.

If you feel like making moves or not you should come on out.  We can recap some season highlights and talk about the upcoming Giro d'Italia.  If you can't make it I will send out a group text when we start and if you want to make some moves we can patch you in via text or Google docs.
